How to lose weight - Metabolism
Our metabolism is meant to make us fat. No, that doesn't mean you can just loll on the sofa all day scoffing fries and doughnuts! But it does explain why it is so easy to gain weight and so difficult to lose it.
In our hunter-gatherer days when we had to search for food daily and there was no fast food our metabolism had to store fat in times of plenty. This stored fat kept us alive in times of famine. And most of us are still built that way. With modern life, little hunter-gathering exercise (I don't think a stroll round the supermarket counts) and too much food available it's tricky not to get fat.

But we are learning more and more about metabolism and we now know that as well as overall calorie intake there are tips and tricks for steering your body towards using fat rather than storing it.
This is an important part of the weight loss programme at Tranzformations. Here you can learn how to boost your metabolism to maximise your rate of fat loss. Fat creation may just be an irritating side-effect of modern life to you, but it is regulated by a wide variety of mechanisms in the body. This means it is affected by a lot of factors beyond what you eat.
Some diet books will touch on aspects of this but they don't' go into enough detail, and they don't tell you what is right for you. One piece of advice may be perfect for one person but could sabotage the fat loss efforts of another. At Tranzformations we focus a lot on metabolism and how you as an individual can safely maximise your fat loss. The advice given is for your metabolism and the programme can be fine-tuned to meet your needs.
This part of the weight loss programme is ideal for someone who has successfully dieted in the past but who has now hit a plateau. Or for someone who has been slim most of their life but has recently put on weight and can't seem to shift it (the dreaded middle-aged spread). It is essential to get these factors right, as following a calorie programme on its own will be a slow and difficult way of losing weight.
And, did you know, the following factors could all have something to do with your lack of weight loss:
- Sleep patterns
- Water consumption
- Stress (look out for a future article Why Stress Makes You Fat)
- Protein/fat/carbohydrate balance
- Type of fat eaten
- Type of carbohydrate eaten
- Use of stimulants, diet drinks, medication
So there is plenty here that can be explored to boost your fat burning ability. If these aspects of weight loss are important to you get in touch now to start your journey to a slimmer self.
And if you know how to lose weight but just can't seem to do it (those naughty foods have your name written on them) you may also need help with the mental aspects of weight loss. You can have a positive Attitude to eating that will enable you to be slim and well.
