Would You Eat Worms?
I don't think I would. Or I'd have to be very hungry.
But apparently they're very nutritious. According to Gardner's Question Time (Radio 4 - what a wild life I lead) birds at this time of year need worms because when the ground is frosty there are few insects around.
Some birds are not vegetarian so putting out the birdseed isn't enough for them. They need the extra fat and protein that you get, apparently, from mealworms.
So now the birds on the bird table have a choice of carnivorous and vegetarian foods.
This is a good metaphor for the work I do. Often students ask me, 'What is the best diet?'
The one you stick to, I answer.
But in terms of weight loss, different diets suit different people, so my recommended diets are always based around the current eating plan. Like the birds, my clients need different foods to be healthy.
But rest assured, I don't include worms on the suggested menus!
